The second semester of AP US History is essentially given completely over to the Twentieth Century. Many classes tend to focus on domestic legislation, judicial, and social history during this era at the expense of the political, economic, and foreign policy developments that students are regularly asked to write essays about on the AP Exam. Our goal for this semester, then, will be to fill those gaps, and provide students with talking points for each major era to allow them to talk informedly and deeply about the dominant economic forces and theories, and prevailing international tensions, that pushed decision making in those eras. In the month leading up to the AP Exam, we will be concentrating on generating topic-driven summaries and essential knowledge for each period, with extra sessions and mock exam days with fully graded and commented essays, in addition to our usual Essay Support and Debate Prep for the students’ in-class work.
