Here it is! A way to boost your successful transition to your first AP course by tackling the opening chapters with added storytelling and dramatics. With more discussion and depth, we will address those first assignments and develop persuasive written pieces that you will surely apply to those first weeks of your high school course. We will share previous AP test questions and student scored responses from a variety of time periods for more modeling and exposure to academic writing.

800 years, 6 continents.  AP World is a course of staggering breadth that also introduces students to the craft of history writing, historical document analysis, and thesis formation.  It is where you learn to argue about the massive forces underlying world events, and piece together the continuities that link us to events a half world and multiple centuries away.

The two great challenges of AP World are figuring out an efficient way of digesting the material you’ll be given, and of quickly organizing and writing a compelling historical essay under time pressure. This course aims to provide students with opportunities to learn the particular writing requirements of this course and practice using them so that they don’t fall into the usual first quarter shock of lower than expected essay grades, while at the same time covering the material from the first three weeks of the course, showing students ways of organizing their studies to tame the mass of detail.  We shall be covering the 11th through 13th centuries, which are the bedrock of this course where many of the ideas of Empire, Trade, and Religion we’ll be referring to throughout the course had much of their modern origins. Adventure awaits.
